Meaning and Significance of "koks"
« on: 3 months ago »
What is the meaning and significance of calling someone "koksu" in Polish.  For example, to say "hardkorowy koksu" of a man?

I had an uncle who was always called -- if i put it in English -- "coke" or "cokie" ... but his name was Stanley.  I never asked about why he had that "nickname" if that is what to call it.

It refers to the slang meaning of "koks" (steroids used by bodybuilders), and suggests that someone  is packed with steroid-built muscles with all the negative connotations/stereotypes connected with it.

Thanks.

I guess koks is not complimentary, as in hardkorowy koksu.  But how it translated into English? As hardcore steroid user? Or a more slang way?

I understand koksu as meaning/related to coal, or to coke which is a derivative of coal.  Are coal and/or coke (i.e. koksu) slang words for steroids in Polish?  As in American English, the words "gear" or "juice" are used?

Not koksu; just koks.

You are saying "koks" is correct, but on You Tube I find "koksu" -- see attachments.

That's this dude's own name. Koksu. And he is Lithuanian, from the look of things.

Weird thread. I'm out.

OK. Now I understand some of my confusion.  Koksu is a name, but koks is a word.  Also, the name is Lithuanian, but the word is Polish.

I would still like a clearer understanding.  There is a club Warszawski Koks  -- How would I put that in English?  Warsaw "what?"

Also, is there an English equivalent for the name Koksu?
